The Flatts (scrapbook), ca. 1924.

This volume contains a number of typescript essays related to Philip Pieterse Schuyler (1623-1683), and descendants who established the Schuyler's' as one of the leading families in matters of business, military, government, and politics of Albany and New York State. The "Fatts" was the name given to the farm site of on land situated north of Albany along the Hudson River. The essays provide biographical sketches of various family members, the arrival of the first settlers from Holland, and details of various family homes and haunts. Several pages are devoted to Pieter Schuyler (1657-1724), the first mayor of the City of Albany. The volume is enhanced with half-tone photographs, wood cut illustrations and cartoons, and numerous tipped-in original manuscripts. Several of these illustrations depict buildings buildings and locales no longer extant in Albany. The cartoons were mostly drawn by syndicated editorial cartoonist, Jerry Costello. Many of the manuscripts are receipts from banking and financial institutions in Albany. Cuyler Reynolds, who was a noted genealogist and family historian of Albany and surrounding region appears to have contributed to this work.
